Solo Trip to Amsterdam: A Hotel Massage on Night Three

The first night is excitement, the second is exploring, and by the third the solo traveller notices the quiet. Why night three is when many book a session.

A solo trip to Amsterdam has a rhythm that people who travel alone will recognise. The first night is full of energy: a new city, a new room, a walk along the canals. The second is spent exploring, often until late. By the third evening, something changes. The novelty has settled, the legs are tired from two days of walking, and eating alone for the third time in a row makes the evening feel longer than it is. Night three is, very often, when a solo traveller writes to us for the first time.

A solo trip to Amsterdam and the third-night feeling

Travelling alone has great advantages. You choose every museum, every café and every detour. But it also means that nothing is organised for you, and nobody else suggests how the evening should go. By the third night, that freedom can start to feel like work. A session in the room removes the planning: for an hour or two, someone else is simply there, and the evening takes care of itself.

Solo travellers who book on the third night often say they had considered it on the first, and decided to wait until they had settled in. That is a very reasonable way to approach it.

Booking when you are new to the city and the house

A first booking needs one short message: the area of your hotel, the length, the format if you know it and the time. Confirmation comes in about ten minutes. Because it is your first booking with the house, half the fee is sent in advance after confirmation, by card, Revolut, Wise or crypto, and the rest is paid to the therapist in the room. The first-time guide walks through every step for guests who want to know exactly what to expect.

If you already know on night two that you want a session on night three, booking a day ahead lets you choose a precise time and a particular therapist. A booking made more than 24 hours ahead also carries the deposit.

Choosing a length on a solo evening

Solo travellers tend to book a little longer than business visitors, because the evening is free and nobody is waiting. Ninety minutes, at 270 euros for one guest with one therapist, is the most common choice. Two hours, at 360 euros, is popular with travellers who have walked most of the day. Guests who find the company matters as much as the massage sometimes look at longer bookings or the overnight, at 1,250 euros for one guest with one therapist, which always carries a deposit.

Two walls, one lamp

Solo travellers often stay in smaller rooms than couples or business guests, and a compact room works perfectly well. Clear the bed and the chair, put the suitcase against a wall, switch off the ceiling light and leave one lamp on. Close the curtains, turn the heating up a little and take a shower before she arrives. Our journal note on small rooms and the space around the bed has a few more ideas for tight spaces.

Women travelling alone

Solo travel is not only for men, and neither are hotel room bookings. Women travelling alone book with the house regularly, often for reasons of comfort and privacy, since a session in her own room means no walk back through unfamiliar streets at night. The page for women guests explains how those bookings are arranged.

The rest of the trip

Something about the third-night session often changes the second half of a solo trip. The tiredness lifts, the room feels more like a base than a box, and the remaining evenings are easier to enjoy alone. Some travellers book again before leaving; as returning guests, a same-day session of one or two hours is then paid entirely in the room. Others simply leave the city feeling that the trip found its balance on the third night. Either way, the solo traveller who arrives for the next visit already knows the city, the room routine and the thread, and night one no longer needs to wait for night three.

If tonight is the night

One message with the hotel, the hour and the length is all it takes. The reply names the therapist and the time she will be at your door.
