The usual pattern is simple: go out, come back, book. A smaller number of guests reverse it. They book a hotel massage before a night out, at six or seven in the evening, and then go out afterwards to dinner, bars or a club. It sounds odd at first, and it is one of the better-kept secrets of a good weekend in the city.
Why a hotel massage before a night out works
A day of sightseeing leaves most visitors tired in a particular way: sore feet, tight shoulders, a slight heaviness that makes the idea of going out again less appealing than it should be. A session at the start of the evening removes that fatigue. Guests leave the hotel afterwards feeling loose, warm and awake, and the night that follows usually lasts longer and feels better than it would have otherwise.
There is also a practical advantage. At seven in the evening, availability is wide, the therapist you chose is more likely to be free, and nobody is racing the clock at one in the morning.
Timing it around dinner
The most important decision is the gap between the session and dinner. Eating a large meal just before a session is uncomfortable, and arriving at a restaurant straight from the shower with wet hair is not much better. The comfortable pattern is a session from about half past six to eight, a relaxed shower and change, and a table from nine. The guide on timing a massage around dinner looks at the before-and-after question in more depth.
To start at half past six, write around half past five. The confirmation comes in about ten minutes, and the therapist reaches any central address forty to sixty minutes after setting out.
Which format leaves you ready to go out
Guests going out afterwards should choose a format that rinses off quickly and leaves energy rather than sleepiness. Slow oil-based sensual massage is the usual choice. Longer, very slow formats such as tantra tend to leave guests wanting to stay in rather than go out, and that is worth knowing in advance. One hour or ninety minutes fits the slot better than two hours.
The figures for the early evening
For one guest with one therapist, one hour is 180 euros and ninety minutes 270 euros. Friends travelling together sometimes each book their own session in their own rooms at the same time, which works well as long as each booking is made separately. A couple sharing one therapist pays 360 euros for one hour and 540 euros for ninety minutes.
A first booking with the house is confirmed with half the fee in advance, by card, Revolut, Wise or crypto. A returning guest booking one or two hours on the same day pays in full when the therapist arrives, in cash, by card or in crypto.
Getting ready without rushing
Lay out the evening's clothes before the session, so there is nothing to search for afterwards. Put your phone, wallet and keys in one place. After the session, take a longer shower than usual, drink a large glass of water and give yourself fifteen quiet minutes before leaving the room. Guests who rush straight out tend to lose the calm they just gained.
Going out afterwards, safely
A relaxed body and a glass of wine at dinner can combine into more tiredness than expected later in the night. Drink water with dinner, eat properly and keep an eye on the time. Leave valuables you do not need in the room safe before you go out, and take only one card and some cash. Coming back to the hotel after a long night is then simple, and the room is already calm and tidy from the early evening.
A different shape for the evening
Booking at the start of the night rather than the end changes more than the timing. The evening becomes something you walk into feeling good, rather than something you recover from. If you prefer the traditional order, the evening massage page and the late night options remain. But on a weekend in Amsterdam, it is worth trying the early slot at least once.
